Post-retained single crowns performance linked to amount of coronal structure

7 prospective cohort studies were included in this review of dental implant survival in patients with periodontitis. Patients with aggressive periodontitis has statistically significant lower survival rates at 3 years but the quality of the evidence is limited.

Ferrule effect improved outcomes in endodontically treated teeth?

Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns or all-ceramic crowns?

This rapid review from the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) identified 29 studies including 10 systematic reviews. The findings suggest a lower long term survival rate for ceramic crowns (48%) compared with porcelain fused to metal crowns (62%).

Crowns improved survival of root treated teeth suggests review

This technology review looked at the effectiveness of crowns on root treated teeth. 3 systematic reviews and 4 non-randomised studies were included. They found that the short term survival with crowns or direct fillings is comparable but long term root canal treated teeth may have better survival.

Intentionally replanted teeth: a possible treatment option?

This review found a significantly higher mean survival for implant supported crowns (97%) compared with Intentionally replanted (IR) teeth (88%). Evidence for IR teeth was limited, being heterogeneous, old and potential suffering from publication bias.

Dental implants: review suggests high survival rates at over 10 years

This review of dental implant studies with 10 years or more follow up found average survival rates of 94.6% (range 73.4%- 100%). The lowest rate 73.4% was seen in the study with the longest follow up period (20 years).

Overdentures: scarce evidence to assess 1- versus 2 dental implant support

This review compared the survival of mandibular overdentures supported by 1- or 2- implants. Only two small RCTs were identified that suggest no difference between 1- or 2- implants. However only a small number of patients were included in these trials so the evidence is weak and more high quality trials are required.
