Specialised commissioning

Specialised services are only commissioned in a few hospitals, where a definite need and population has been demonstrated. They support patients who are suffering from less common conditions, and require specialist care. It has implications for commissioners, because they need to plan the budget, and establish if there is a demand for specialist care.
