This review of survival and complication rates of resin-bonded fixed dental prosthesis included 209 studies. The findings suggest overall survival rates of 91.3 % (95%CI; 88–93.7) . The quality of the available studies suggest that this should be interpreted cautiously.

This review looks at the association between periodontitis and obesity. It included 13 studies (8 cohorts; 5 clinical trials) and suggests that overweight, obesity, and weight gain, may be a risk factors for developing periodontitis.

Dentine hypersensitivity following periodontal treatment reduced by use of desensitising paste


In this small trial the use of either an 8% arginine desensitising paste or prophy paste reduced dentine hypersensitivity after scaling but the arginine base paste was significantly better than the standard prophy paste.

Severe periodontitis: affected 11% of the world population in 2010


The review represents some of the output of the 2010 Global Burden of Disease studies and finds that severe periodontitis is the 6th most prevalent disease affecting about 11% of adults worldwide.The prevalence increases gradually with age with a steep increase between the 3rd and 4th decades.

Toothbrushing: review finds association between infrequent brushing and periodontitis


One of the aims of regular daily toothbrushing is to remove plaque as it is an important risk factor for caries an periodontal diseases. This new review looks at the evidence related to frequency of brushing and periodontal disease. Only 14 observational studies were included and these suggest that irregular brushing is associated with more severe periodontal disease.
