This review of comparing photodynamic therapy (PDT) and antifungals or the treatment of denture stomatitis included 5 studies involving a total of 218 patients. While the findings suggest that PDT is effective none of the the studies was at low risk of bias and the treatment protocols investigated differ.

Denture stomatitis: Are natural products effective?

This review comparing topical natural substances with conventional antifungals in the treatment of denture stomatitis included 17 studies 14 of which were RCTs. A wider range of natural products were tested and showed similar efficacy to antifungals however, almost all the studies were at high risk of bias so the certainty of the evidence is very low.

While the findings suggest that microwave may be effective the evidence is of low certainty so additional high quality well reported studies are needed.

Denture stomatitis: some evidence for nystatin and disinfecting agents

This review of interventions for the management of denture stomatitis identified 35 RCTs. A majority of the RCTs were at high risk of bias. The findings suggest that nystatin and disinfecting agents have a positive effect but the results should be viewed cautiously because of the quality of the available evidence
