This review of survival rates of dental implants placed in fresh extraction sockets included 73 studies. However the majority were retrospective with only 5 small RCTs and 26 controlled trials. While the findings suggest that failure rates are higher in extraction sockets the evidence should be interpreted with caution.

Dental implants: are survival rates for tilted and axially placed implants similar?

shutterstock_34428667

This review included 44 studies (25 prospective, 19 retrospective) and suggests that survival rates for tilted and axially dental implants are similar. However the findings should be treated with caution because of the limited quality of the available evidence.

Review suggests that autotransplantation of teeth with complete root formation have favourable outcomes

shutterstock_4350574

Autotransplantation of teeth has been carried out for many years and the 1990s saw clarification of the prognosis and risk factors together with proposed standard surgical procedures.  The aim of this review was to assess the outcomes of autotransplanted teeth with complete root formation and the effects of various influencing factors. Searches were conducted in [read the full story…]

Higher failure rates for narrow dental implants suggested by review

shutterstock_79298812-implant placement

The use of dental implants is increasing and small diameter implants are being seen as having potential to restore small edentulous spans without the need for bone augmentation. The aim of this review was to compare the survival rates of narrow diameter to standard or wide diameter implants Searches were conducted in the PubMed, Medline, [read the full story…]

All -ceramic posterior crowns fractured at a higher rate than anterior crowns – ADA-EBD critical summary
