This review of different bleaching agents used for internal bleaching of endodontically treated discoloured teeth included 8 studies. While the findings suggest all agents had a positive effect the quality of the avaiiable studies is low so the findings should be interpreted cautiously.

Tooth whitening with home-based bleaching products

This Cochrane review update of the effects of home-based tooth whitening products dispensed by a dentist or over-the-counter included 71 RCTs. However, most of thetrials were small single studies of interventions of highly variable nature providing very low-certainty evidence over short time periods to support the effectiveness of home-based chemically-induced whitening.

Tooth whitening: Tray-delivered gels showed a slightly better whitening efficacy

This review of tooth whitening included 13 randomised studies and suggests that tray-delivered carbamide peroxide gel provided better whitening efficacy than HP-based products. However the available evidence is very heterogeneous and short term.

Tooth whitening at home–strips or gel?

This review compared tooth whitening strips against 10% carbamide peroxide gel. Only 9 low quality studies were available and while meta-analysis found no difference between the interventions, the authors did not consider that strips were a substitute for gel.
