Tom is a Research Assistant in the NIHR Mental Health Policy Research Unit in the Division of Psychiatry, UCL. Prior to this he has held a range of research assistant roles where he has investigated Acute Day Units, a self-management Smartphone app, and interventions for loneliness and smoking cessation. His first degree was in Psychology and he has an MSc in Clinical Mental Health Sciences at UCL.

Exploring drop-out rates: new review shows poor retention in trials of apps for depression

In his debut blog, Tom Steare summarises a systematic review looking at drop out rates in randomised controlled trials of smartphone apps for depression, which finds that depression apps with mood monitoring and human feedback were associated with greater retention of research participants.
