New Cochrane protocols for May 2012

The May issue of the Cochrane library sees another 3 dental protocols published:-

This review  will  evaluate the effects of different methods of remuneration on the professional behaviour of primary care dentists and associated patient outcomes.

Interdental brushing for the management of periodontal diseases and dental caries in adults (Protocol). Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews 2012, Issue 5. Art. No.: CD009857. DOI: 10.1002/14651858.CD009857.

This review will evaluate the effectiveness of interdental brushing in addition to toothbrushing, as compared with toothbrushing alone or toothbrushing and flossing for the management (prevention) of periodontal diseases and dental caries. The review will also assess the safety of interdental brushing procedures, in terms of potential harms and adverse effects, balancing important benefits against important harms.

The aim of this review is to determine the effectiveness of community-based population-level oral health promotion interventions to prevent dental caries and periodontal disease in children.
