New Cochrane Protocols May 2013

The fifth issue of the Cochrane Library for 2013 has three new protocols  from the Oral Health Group:-

The first protocol is:-

Riley P, Lamont T. Triclosan/copolymer containing toothpastes for oral health (Protocol). Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews 2013, Issue 5. Art. No.: CD010514. DOI: 10.1002/14651858.CD010514.

The main aim here is , to assess the effects (i.e. including both the efficacy and safety) of triclosan/copolymer containing fluoride toothpastes, compared to fluoride toothpastes, for the long-term control of caries, plaque and gingivitis in children and adults.

The second protocol is:-

Albrecht (nee Bunge) M, Kupfer R, Reissmann D, Haastert B, Mühlhauser I, Köpke S. Oral health educational interventions for nursing home staff and residents (Protocol). Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews 2013, Issue 5. Art. No.: CD010535. DOI: 10.1002/14651858.CD010535.

The objective here are:-

  • To assess the effects of oral health educational interventions for nursing home staff and residents to maintain or improve the oral health of nursing home residents.
  • To describe the components of the complex interventions used in the included studies.

and the third protocol is:-

Schenkel AB, Peltz I, Veitz-Keenan A. Dental cavity liners for Class I and Class II resin-based composite restorations (Protocol). Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews 2013, Issue 5. Art. No.: CD010526. DOI: 10.1002/14651858.CD010526.

 The main objective for this review is:-

  • To assess the effects of using dental cavity liners in the placement of Class I and Class II resin-based composite posterior restorations in permanent teeth in children and adults.
