Tinnitus: Prevalence in patients with temporomandibular disorders

This review of the prevalence of tinnitus in patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) included 25 studies finding a higher prevalence of tinnitus in patients with TMDs . Patients with TMD had a median prevalence of 42% compared with 12% in control groups.

Audiovisual distraction for dental anxiety in children?

Patients in the intervention group were shown a brief informational video before receiving their Internet based intervention, in the hope that this would encourage acceptance of the treatment. 

This review of the effectiveness of audiovisual distraction for reducing dental anxiety in children included 9 trials 6 of which were randomised. The findings suggested that audiovisual distraction was helpful in reducing dental anxiety although all the trials were considered to be at high risk of bias.

Cleft lip and palate: maxillary distraction osteogenesis or orthognathic surgery for hypoplastic maxilla?

This Cochrane review update of the effects and long-term results of maxillary distraction osteogenesis compared to orthognathic surgery for the treatment of hypoplastic maxilla in people with cleft lip and palate only includes 1 small RCT. The trial suggests that distraction osteogenesis may produce more satisfactory results however the trial is considered to be at very high risk of bias so the findings should be viewed cautiously.

Partial edentulism: The effect of prosthetic treatments on oral health-related quality of life

23 studies were included in this review assessing the oral health-related quality of life (OHR- QoL ) of patients with partial edentulism after different dental prosthetic treatments. Both fixed tooth-supported and implant-supported dental prostheses improved OHR- QoL in the short and medium term.
