Implants improve clinical outcomes for Kennedy class I patients

This review of the use of dental implants to support removable partial dentures in Kennedy class I cases identified only 15 small observational studies. The review suggests that implant use improved patient satisfaction and masticatory ability. However, these findings should be interpreted with caution.

Zirconium based dental restorations –available evidence limited

While this review of zirconium restoration included 27 studies, only 5 were RCTs. Furthermore only 4 studies had more than 5 years follow up. Ten studies included fewer than 20 restorations, so while good survival data was presented, the results should be viewed with caution.

Implant overdentures improve satisfaction, chewing and bite force, suggests review

While 53 studies were included in this review of implant overdentures only a narrative summary of the outcomes of chewing ability, bite force and patient satisfaction could be presented. While all the studies were prospective, information about the quality and risk of bias in the included studies is not reported.

Overdentures: scarce evidence to assess 1- versus 2 dental implant support

This review compared the survival of mandibular overdentures supported by 1- or 2- implants. Only two small RCTs were identified that suggest no difference between 1- or 2- implants. However only a small number of patients were included in these trials so the evidence is weak and more high quality trials are required.

Dental implants: survey found that patients had high levels of satisfaction with implant-supported restorative treatment

This large Swedish questionnaire survey conducted on a random sample of patients achieved a high response rate (83%) . Those who had received dental implant supported restorative treatment reported very high levels of satisfaction (94%). However, 31% had experienced implant related complications although only 6% reported that these complications occurred frequently.
