Rafi Armanto (he/him) is the Head of Lived Experience at Orygen, and is a lived experience worker, international speaker, and specialist in the field of lived experience work in youth mental health. As the Head of Lived Experience, Rafi provides strategic leadership in developing organisational structures for the lived experience workforce, and drives youth and family inclusion initiatives at all levels of the organisation. Rafi’s leadership and work in this space is informed by his experiences engaging with the mental health system as well as of being a peer worker informed by Intentional Peer Support principles. Rafi also has an interest into research of peer work implementation into youth mental health settings and the application of peer workforces in non-traditional mental health settings.

Peer support has UPSIDES for global mental health

The UPSIDES trial demonstrates that peer support is effective across diverse global contexts, from high-income to low-income countries. While overall social inclusion scores didn’t reach significance, participants showed reduced isolation and increased empowerment and hope. This landmark study proves peer support can be successfully adapted to different cultural settings while maintaining core recovery-oriented principles.
