Elaine is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre on Climate Change and Planetary Health and the Centre for Global Mental Health (LSHTM-King's College London), and Lecturer and Coordinator at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Peru. Her research centres on community-based adaptation to climate change and its mental health impacts across social determinants of health, with particular emphasis on vulnerable populations through a gender lens. She has specialised in disasters and mental health since 2011, expanding her focus to broader environmental determinants of mental health research since 2016. She has a background in clinical medicine, epidemiology, mixed-methods research, and planetary health. Elaine is a contributor to The Mental Elf, focusing on climate change and mental health, environmental determinants of mental health, and global mental health research. She is also interested in migration and refugee mental health, trauma, public health and primary care.
