Ava completed her BA in Applied Psychology at University College Cork, where she developed an interest in psychosocial research in reproductive health. She also has social‑care experience supporting people experiencing long‑term homelessness within a Housing First model. Her research interests largely focus on mental health disparities within underserved and marginalised populations. Ava is now an MSc Mental Health Studies student at King’s College London and is completing a placement at the South East Living Well Centre, working within the short‑term support team. Her dissertation, conducted alongside her placement, will be investigating the effect of collaborative care on clinical outcomes in ethnic minority patients.

A new systematic review pools data from 9,620 detained children across 8 countries and finds alarming rates of depression, PTSD and self-harm. The harm rises the longer and harsher the detention, and no form of it is safe.
