In February this year, we posted about new summary information sheets produced by the challenging behaviour foundation. This month sees the launch of a new series of three information sheets which look at the causes of challenging behaviour, and explain how to make effective plans to reduce it.
The information sheets are designed to provide information and guidance for families or professionals who support a child or adult with severe learning disabilities whose behaviour challenges.
The launch consists of two updates of existing information sheets covering ways to identify causes of challenging behaviour and a brand new information sheet which covers how to make a Positive Behaviour Support plan.
We have covered reviews of the effectiveness of positive behaviour support elsewhere on the Elf, with one Irish study finding significant reductions in the frequency, management difficulty, and episodic severity of challenging behaviour as a result of the use of PBS
and an organisational case study showing that the systematic adoption of PBS within a service was associated with substantial reductions in the use of physical interventions.
