October saw one new Cochrane protocol published on the Cochrane Library which slipped passed the Elf’s gaze.

Cope A, Francis N, Wood F, Mann MK, Chestnutt IG. Systemic antibiotics for symptomatic apical periodontitis and acute apical abscess in adults (Protocol). Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews 2012, Issue 10. Art. No.: CD010136. DOI: 10.1002/14651858.CD010136.

The principal objective of this review is to evaluate the effects of systemic antibiotics for symptomatic apical periodontitis and acute apical abscess in adults by comparing participant reported measures of pain and swelling or clinician reported measures of infection or both.

November sees the publication of four more protocols including one in which the Elf is participating!

Walsh T, Liu JLY, Brocklehurst P, Lingen M, Kerr AR, Ogden G, Warnakulasuriya S, Scully C. To assess 1 above (caries reduction in populations) at different levels of baseline caries risk.

To assess any reported changes in bacterial levels (of any species) in children/mothers.

To describe participant satisfaction levels.
